William Shakespeare is coming to the Outer Banks! The Theatre of Dare proudly presents Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Indoor Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park. The play is a comedy written in 1596 portraying the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta, the former Queen of the Amazons. Much of the play is set in the forest and follows the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur and mostly incompetent actors from around Athens, looking to make names for themselves by having their production chosen among several acts as the courtly entertainment for the royal wedding party. The play is one of Shakespeake’s most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world. There will be six performances in Manteo from the end of February through the beginning of March.
